All of the walls are load bearing. The odd shape is due to the lot lines, as the property is built with zero tolerance to the neighbors and the alleyways. The long sides of the house (A/G) border the neighbors.

The first floor is a three room apartment and a one room (efficiency, storage, ??). The second floor on the north side left to right is the master bedroom, study, bedroom, baths, bedroom, living area. On the south side it is living room, dining room, kitchen, bath. The third floor is bedroom and living area. The room on the left has a door onto the roof. The new entry will be on the east side of the house, we will be removing the odd shaped bathroom and existing stairs.

The total area of the lot is 343 sq meters, or about 3430 ft sq. All the rooms are entered from the outside (the inside patios) except the living room. This allows light and air into the interior of the house. The average high temp in Jan is 71, the average high in July is 78. The elevation is about 6600'. There is no heating or air conditioning. The thermal mass of the building moderates the temperature (Climate Graph.)

There is a Home Depot in Leon, which is about 40 miles away. Unfortunately I don't have a car, a garage, or for that matter a street in front of the house. I'm not that far from an alley which will allow a car (about 50' away), however like all (both?) the streets in Guanajuato, it is one lane, one way. All the materials in and out for construction are carried on the backs of laborers. Every bit of stone, gravel, sand and cement are hand carried up from the Calle Alonso in flour sacks. All construction debris, and there is a lot of it, has to go out the same way.
