La Casa en Guanajuato

8 March, 2007 - The end is near(er)!

I was there when the last bit of original ceiling was covered - an indication that we are at the beginning of the end. Only a few square meters of cement tile remain to be removed and replaced with the 'piso de barro', the fired clay tiles used throughout the house.

Finish work continues in the living room, the "Señora de la Casa" (master bedroom) and bath, as well as the back entrance. I'm expecting the amount of dust generated to go down dramatically, and that will let us start using the kitchen in earnest. Here are two views of the "Señora de la Casa" room, which is ready for floor tile and paint.

Work is nearing completion on the callejons as well, with the apartment side of the house finished, and the front entrance (suite side) is close. As of last week the only part unfinished was directly out the front door. Openings in the street for utilities access are waiting for the covers to be constructed to match the patterns of the cut stone inlay.
